What is an enameled or painted coin?
An enameled or painted coin is a coin (in this case a pressed coin) that has been painted with one or more colors. Typically enamel paints or epoxies are used.
A picture of a stunning example is below.

The above coin is a gold-plated 1964 Australian large cent (about the size of a silver dollar). It was pressed, gold-plated, and then hand-painted. It was also baked between each coat in order to ensure that the paint will endure for a very long time.
Another painted coin is below.

The above coin is a painted coin done by Frank Spadone. It was rolled on a 1937 Indian Head nickel, and then hand-painted. Image courtesy of Don Adams.
The process of painting coins was often employed in the 1960s and 1970s, as a way to further adorn and beautify elongated coins.
